Presentation of cups to Club Competition winners for the 2025 Season
Following the AGM, Jill Barraclough, the outgoing chairman, presented the cups to the winners of the club competitions to:
Bob Strover – Men’s Singles Champion
Gill Brent – Ladies Singles Champion
Gill Brent and Jo-Ann Hughes – Mixed Doubles Champions
Robert Barraclough and Colin Philpott – Progressive Doubles Champions
Club Singles Finals 10th September
Bob Holds Off Trevor to Take Singles Crown
Eight players contested the Bishop Monkton Singles Finals Day, starting with the quarter finals. The losers, Jackie, Nick, Gill and Robb moved on to the Shield competition.
In the main draw, Bob beat Chris and Trevor overcame Robert to set up the final. Bob raced to a 9-3 lead but Trevor fought back with five consecutive hoops to 9-8. Bob held on to win 10-8 and take the cup. The crowd of four including the usual groupie were very impressed by the standard.
In the Shield, Robb beat Gill and Nick overcame Jackie in the semis. Robb then won the final 10-4 against Nick. In the 3rd/4th place play off Chris narrowly beat Robert 7-6. Gill was the highest placed lady and becomes the ladies champion.
A great day of close matches and inspired play from all participants. Thanks must go to Bob Strover for organising the event which ran very smoothly.
